ALLSTON – It was a comeback for the ages on Thursday night at Harvard Stadium, as the Will Manny-led All-Stars of the MLL came from six down in the final quarter to defeat Team USA in overtime, 15-14.
Despite the inclement weather, both teams shined bright and gave fans everything they could have asked for, with a competitive battle involving the best lacrosse players in the United States.
Michael Manley of the Dallas Rattlers got the comeback started with a drive and finish off of transition for the MLL All-Stars, all while drawing a slashing call. Connor Buczek of the Florida Launch capitalized on the ensuing man-up to make it a 14-10 game before Mike Chanenchuk (Charlotte Hounds) fired home a 2-pointer to cut the deficit to a pair at 14-12. Kevin Rice fired home a goal down low to make it a one-goal game with 2:55 to play before Buczek evened the game at 14 with an off-stick bouncer with 13.1 seconds to play, sending the game to overtime.
With 6:46 to play in the extra period, Manny fired home a left-handed low-to-low rip to complete the comeback for the MLL All-Stars.
From the Boston Cannons, Sergio Perkovic recorded a goal for the MLL All-Stars and No. 1 overall pick and Tewaarton Award winner out of Denver, Trevor Baptiste, recorded 10 faceoff wins for Team USA.
